Encephalopathy - Travel and Vaccination advisory

This communication is an official travel advisory to inform U.S. Citizens and Visitors coming to our municipality from neighboring countries that:

1. Due to the increase in precipitation in the Juan Vicente Campos Elias municipality, there might be an increased risk of infection by arthropod-borne viruses, also known as arboviruses.

2. Persons infected have an increased risk of developing Encephalopathy or Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis (VEE). Encephalopathy is a brain disease that affects the patient's mental state and brain function, causing health problems.

These viruses (Togaviridae, Flaviviridae, and Bunyaviridae) can spread to humans via mosquito and Flea bites.

Please take all necessary precautions when traveling trough zones with high levels of precipitation.
